Acer ramps up production of second-gen Chromebook

Sep. 30, 2012 (10:58 amBy:
Recognize the humble laptop up there? No? That’s not a surprise, since most of the world paid very little attention to the Acer AC700 Chromebook. Only Acer and Samsung have bothered to buildChrome OS hardware so far, and the consumer public hasn’t been too interested in paying more for low-power hardware running Google’s cloud-first OS than comparably-or-better-equipped Windows machines.

Hands-on with B&N’s Nook HD and Nook HD+ tablets

Yesterday, just hours after announcing their Nook video service, Barnes and Noble has announced two new tablets. The 7-inch Nook HD and the 9-inch Nook HD+ will be the company’s next generation of color tablets, and despite coming out shortly after the Kindle Fire HD (as in too close for the new Kindles to have made a design impact) the bookseller has managed to come out with two compelling offerings.

Size matters: Gadgets where tech went huge

Excite 13 vs iPhone - NOT REALJust recently Toshiba announced a new Android tablet, the 13-inch Excite 13. It’s 13.3-inches on the diagonal, has a full SD slot, and weighs 2.2 pounds. While the Excite 13 is certainly not small compared to the competition (OK, it’s quite large), the device is actually just a start when it comes to the more-is-better school of product design. And it got us thinking…

HP HDX Dragon - omg

Large laptop: HP HDX Dragon

HP’s HDX Dragon was a 20.1-inch laptop that weighed in at 15.5 pounds and sold for $4500. It was so big that the 1920×1080 display didn’t have a normal hinge, rather it lifted up on a monitor arm not unlike the one on a standard LCD display. The clever mechanism made is so that the screen was independently tiltable, allowing for one of the most adjustable laptop displays ever. The system, which was released in the Windows Vista era, packed two hard drives, a full number pad, a TV tuner, and a sound system that featured four speakers and a subwoofer, all of which are benefits of its size. That battery life was reportedly under 2 hours, not that this computer would be able to fit in any laptop bag you owned.

How to start watching at 4K right now

LG just launched the biggest “ultra definition” television in the Korean market, and the 84-inch mammoth is doing its part in not only gaping the jaws of Internet onlookers but also reviving the discussion that there is still a long way to go after 1080p. The “ultra definition” moniker is what LG and other manufacturers use to refer to their displays as they approach and eclipse 4K, a resolution that is more than four times as large as 1080p and is what you experience when you go to a digitally equipped movie theater.

What do we know about the next Nexus?

Nexus
